In the summer of 2019, in Manta, Ecuador, I met a group of Venezuelan drummers at Playa Murcielago. People were dancing, watching and singing. All of them were migrants, bringing pieces of their culture and tradition to a new land. During the pandemic, they stopped meeting. They stopped playing the drums at the beach all together. I still don’t know if they started it up again. What I do know is that the drum is the heartbeat. These photos serve to preserve the moment when the Venezuelan heart would beat at the beach for collective healing.
