The Mango State is an ode to one of my favorite fruit seasons: mango season. I grew up in Florida 'The Sunshine State' where mangoes were a constant—eaten ripe and sweet, or green with salt and vinegar on the side. They evoke memories of long summer months spent with family, friends, and spontaneous adventures. This year, I began documenting mangoes as a symbol of Florida culture and iconography. I'm curious about how Floridians relate to this fruit and how it weaves into the identity of living here. Mango season is bold and inescapable—trees heavy with fruit, sidewalks littered with fallen mangoes, and lines out the door at Truly Tropical for rare varieties. I chose to photograph using a medium format film camera to slow down, observe, and explore with more intention. Each image is a fragment of this sticky, sun-soaked season. This is an ongoing project—more to come as the summer unfolds.
